Miriam
(Mimi) Ratner, MSW, is a licensed clinical social worker and psychospiritual energy
practitioner. She has traditional training in solution-oriented, individual, couples
and family therapy as well as behavioral medicine modalities which she has incorporated
into her practice over the past 22 years. Mimi also has training and a clinical
interest in treating life trauma and chronic illness. In addition to private practice,
she is currently on staff at the Washington Cancer Institute, Washington Hospital
Center, where she is the Psychosocial Oncology Counselor and Cancer Coach, and
helps patients to deal with the psychological, emotional and spiritual demands
of serious illness and the complexities of the health care system. For those undergoing
traditional medical treatment, Mimi is an expert at helping the patient create
self-care plans. Together they find non-traditional/complementary resources and
specialty practitioners to augment standard treatment and enhance healing. She
also has an expertise in preparing patients for surgery and other invasive procedures
using guided imagery and light trance hypnosis.
